Ham and Lentil Stew


I thought that it might be appropriate to write up a Keith Floyd recipe this month as he was obviously so popular with everybody. This is some comfort food as the season changes and it's simple to do. It comes from Burgundy

Serves 4

1 onion

olive oil

500g/1lb green lentils

4 smoked sausages or chorizo sausages

250g/8oz piece smoked bacon or gammon

1 clove garlic


1 bayleaf


2 tomatoes

salt & pepper


Fry the onion in olive oil until it is golden. Add the lentils, sausages and bacon or gammon, the garlic, all the herbs and tomatoes. Season with salt and pepper. Cover with water and leave to simmer for about 1 hour.
