This painting is based on a sketch published in a Dutch newspaper showing the Lambert Copper Works at the Prince of Wales Dock, Swansea. The copper works in the Swansea valley had been developed since the 1850s. Swansea became the most important copper producing centre in the world. The painting shows copper barques bound for Chile
