Valpariso entering the Float in Swansea Docks

This shows the barque Valpariso being towed with a cargo of silver ore into the Float at the turn of the century (1900) The decline of the copper trade set in 1870 but it remained buoyant until 1885 when the Americans began to compete for Chilean and Peruvian ores. The other side of the Float (West) we see Swansea Castle and a steam engine on the overhead Oystermouth Railway.
