Happy 80th Birthday Fr David

Happy 80th Birthday Fr David

On Friday 18th January 2019 Fr David celebrates his 80th birthday. He plans to spend the day quietly with his family.

Fr David is greatly loved within the Church and community of Mumbles and has served faithfully here as Assistant Curate for twenty eight years. His naughty but nice' approach to ministry, passion for the Gospel and big heart for those on the margins of society have been features of one of the most fruitful ministries within our diocese.

He has a remarkable gift of remembering the names of people, something he gained in over forty years in a distinguished career in education. He ended that career with what he has often called the 'icing on the cake'- teaching adults with special needs at Gorseinon College. Many of us will remember the chaos and joy of their annual Carol Service at All Saints.

He was also one of the longest serving Youth Officers in the Church in Wales. He organised the hugely successful Annual Diocesan Youth Camp at Brecon and brought so much faith, fellowship and fun to the hundreds of young people who joined him each year.

But it is the people of Oystermouth who have benefited most from his unique style of ministry. Over the years he has played a full part in the life of the parish, presiding at many of the daily and Sunday celebrations of the Holy Eucharist, visiting the sick, taking the sacrament to the housebound, conducting funerals and ministering to the bereaved.

David has shown us what cheerful ministry looks like. He has been a great support to me and I am proud to think of him as a true friend and trusted colleague. On behalf of everyone in the parish I wish him a very happy eightieth birthday. Pob bendith David.

Following the Holy Eucharist at Norton on Sunday 20th January we plan to celebrate Fr David's 80th with a glass of fizz and some light refreshments. Please come along to wish him a happy birthday.
