Sea Sunday - 8th July

On Sea Sunday churches around the UK come together to remember seafarers and to pray for them, their families and those who support them. Seafarers transport more than 95% of the food and goods the world uses every day, and yet these 1.2 million hardworking men and women are often forgotten. Away from family and friends for many months at a time, working long hours and navigating some of the world's most dangerous stretches of ocean. Seafaring can be a tough, lonely and hazardous career. Sea Sunday is a day set aside in the Church to remember the brave and dedicated sailors we rely on to keep our global economy afloat. It's an opportunity to celebrate the vital contribution seafarers make to all our lives, and to pray for them and their families.

A Prayer for Sea Sunday

We pray, 0 God, for all seafarers as they fulfil the duties and face the dangers of their calling: for the men and women of the Royal and Merchant Navies; the keepers of lighthouses and lightships, and the pilots of our ports; for all who carry out the services of docks and harbours and those who crew lifeboats and guard our coasts. Grant them your strength and protection, and keep them in the hour of special need; for Jesus' Christ's sake. Amen.
